Which Foods Make The Superfoods List?

What are Superfoods?

The term Superfood is generally used to describe foods that are high in phytonutrients content,  high in antioxidants, anthocyanins, vitamin C, manganese, dietary fibre and have great health benefits.However there is no official list of superfoods as there is much discrepancy over what constitutes a superfood, but I believe that we need to look at what foods are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and are going to support our health and longevity in order to determine it as a superfood.

There are certain foods that many people call Superfoods with a high ORAC value which is a chart used to measure antioxidants(antioxidants slow the aging process and help to prevent  degenerative diseases). One of the worlds authorities on raw food and nutrition is David Wolfe who wrote the book "Superfoods: The Food and Medicine of the Future" in which he talks about Superfoods as 'goji berries', hemp seed. cacao beans/raw chocolate, maca, spirulina, bee products and an array of other life giving foods.

Among the foods listed above there are also popular superfoods
such as Green tea, red wine (because of its richness in resveratrol)
*avocado broccoli, onions, peppers, spinach, sprouts, hot peppers, acai berries beans, barley, seeds i.e chia seeds, nuts, lentils, *cinnamon, garlic, honey, extra virgin olive oil(cold-pressed), sea salt, yogurt and kefir
*sea vegetables i.e. chlorella and spirulina or sea weed such as nori, irish moss, umeboshi plums, wheat grass, miso,
It is difficult to find a definitive list of superfoods because every body has a different opinion on what should be on the list, but my personal opinion is that when you are choosing foods that are going to give you the upmost in health it is always best to look for foods that are nutrient dense, have had the least amount of processing and have not been treated with any chemicals or preservatives.

Finally it is a good idea to looks for foods that you will give you multiple health benefits by giving your body what it needs to function optimally. For what its worth there are some great foods which I personally don't won't to be with out these are chlorella, spirullina. chia seeds and Cacao/ raw chocolate as I have researched the benefits of these and they help to sustain my health and keep my energy levels high.
